Funny enough, I was supposed to see Doctorow talk in Chicago in mid-October but the event got canceled.
Post LEVERAGE launch, the evidence has also never been more clear that social media doesn't work as a marketing vehicle for authors. I've already shut down one social network (Bluesky), I'm in the process of extricating myself from this platform, and I'm on the fence about nuking my TikTok account (I wrapped up my Kash campaign and am currently taking a breather).
At the end of the day, I really struggle with the ethical dilemma of using these platforms. I hate them and know they're evil, but they're also the only tools available to me to try to get eyeballs on my work. Techno-dystopian capitalism is a real bitch.
I'm stewing on many facets of the modern publishing/media ecosystem and eventually I'll put together an essay. Scathing in tone, of course, as is my specialty.
